After a lot of rain, warm days, and snow, it seems like Spring is finally here and summer is just around the corner. With the warmer weather comes all sorts of creepy crawly animals. For those of us who spend most of our days working in an office, bugs and insects can be a mild inconvenience or one we only have to deal with on the weekends. However, for those of us who spend the majority of our work day outside, it can be a major concern.
An NBC News article recently reported statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicating that over 640,000 Americans were infected by vector-borne diseases, those transmitted by vectors including mosquitos, ticks, and fleas, since 2004. These diseases included nine diseases not previously seen in the USA including Zika.

Precautions should be taken by those who work outdoors to protect themselves from these pests and the diseases they carry. Workers should wear long pants tucked into their boots/socks when working around tall grass or unmaintained areas to minimize the exposure of skin to these pests. Bug spray can also be used on clothes to help repel insects and bugs. Be careful when selecting bug spray to make sure it's appropriate for the working environment you’ll be in and always follow directions concerning application. If an insect bite is discovered, it should be treated and reported to management.
